Finding the poitive in the negative.
We focus so much on the negative aspects of our
lives we forget about all the positives.
So I have decided to make a list of the good things :-)
- Dad can no longer walk in to the living room while I am watching something on the telly and turn it over.
- I can talk without being interrupted.
- He cant tell me to shut up.[Well he can I just choose to not do the board until I am finished.]
- He doesn't know how long it takes me to get ready, therefor he can't tell me to hurry up.
- As I no longer live at home he can't say “Stop putting make up on and do...”
- He stays all Sunday with a lipstick kiss on his forehead[The trick is not to blot it before kissing him, that way you don't waste a tissue – You're welcome ;-) The nurses don't wash it off because it looks gorgeous]
- When I cut his hair I can shave a big S in it and he doesn't know.[But then Mum isn't too happy so have to shave it all off]
- When he gives me money to buy Mums [insert appropriate holiday here] gift, he forgets to ask for his change back.
- We can all check our blood pressure, heart rate, have a quick fix of oxygen when we like.[Although he wouldn't let me borrow his morphine patch before going to the dentist (I was rather scared!!!) that's just mean!!!]
- The suction machine is very good[Warning to the faint of heart skip this bit!!!] at removing the pus from the infection I got on Sunday, after having my wisdom teeth removed 3 weeks ago. In different circumstances I would have had to spit it out but thanks to thanks to Dad's machine and BJ's excellent suctioning skills it all got sucked out. (BJ if you are reading this, the Dr and Dentist both said that it would have been worse if you hadn't removed it, so if Civil Engineering doesn't work out, you could always be a dentist ;-) )
- He can't embarrass everyone by walking around in the nuddy pants.[No-one wants to see your bum Dad, I am sure that Ann and Norman are both scarred forever because of that one Easter that the clocks changed and the gas went out!!!]
- We don't have to eat horrible dinners, because someone thinks that they are on Masterchef – but really it's more Can't Cook, Shouldn't have cooked that!![Saying that, most meals were delicious, just a few dodgy ones. (Seriously just because there are only knaki sausages, corned beef, left over mash and veg left in the fridge, doesn't mean that they go together!!) but as I said at the beginning we focus more on the negative]
- We don't have to try and find ways to make Dad look like he has a beard with mascara because he is MC-ing at something and for some reason needs to be clean shaven for all of it, except for those 5 minutes that he needed a black beard.[We all know his is ginge!]
- No spoilers when Dad has seen the movie before but no one else has. Appart from “The hero dies in the end!”[Don't remember Elsa dying in Frozen but maybe I missed the end credits...]
- Not a positive just a warning to anyone younger than me Sex scenes are still awkward when being watched with your Dad even when you are supposedly a grown up![Lots of uncomfortable giggling during that episode of The Good Wife with the sex-worker, so much so that mum had to come out and see what was going on!]
- Things get put into perspective, Snakes on a Plane are highly unlikely when you don't fly, but Snakes in a suit and hat are hilarious and not scary at all[Fun Fact of the day, the director wanted to change the name of that film to Pacific Air Flight 121, but Samuel L Jackson said he would only star in it if it was called Snakes on a Plane]
- The guests on Jeremy Kyle remind him that even though his situation is tough at least he still has all his teeth, looks normal, doesn't wear trackies and didn't steal a priceless ring off his mother in laws, neighbours, sisters, husbands, grandmas dying finger!!!!
- He can watch all the sport he wants but we don't have to sit through the home refereeing.[But just by looking at him you know that he is screaming something along the lines of “Ref that was not offside/penalty/red card/yellow card you #@!!%?”]
- He has no choice but to watch my fashion shows when I get new clothes without complaining [with one look we know if it's a nay / yay or too short / too low cut or put a vest on / you need a pair of
leggingsfootless tights or Perfect!] - I can change my nail varnish in front of him without him gagging and saying that it smells horrible, go and do that somewhere else!!
There are many many more, but when you sit down to
write them down it's hard to think of them. If I was organized I
would write them on a pad as soon as I thought of them but as the
idea for this post came to me in the middle of the night when I
couldn't sleep, I didn't think of that!!!!
Once you replace negative thoughts with positive
ones, you will start seeing positive results.
XOXO
