Seeing the world through someone elses eyes 2
Pete Dads friend from Uni.
I will start with just 2 comments - i. Toga party
and ii. Boxer short party. Because children may read this I can't say
anymore but both will make your Dad smile, or more likely a broad grin
!!
My two favourite stories are-:
1. Rob along with Tim (Green), Andy (Turner) and I were the inventors if the game 'drink along a Dallas'.
This
involved taking a drink every time your chosen character appeared on
screen (Ie JR or Bobby etc) and everyone taking a drink whenever the
word oil was used. Given that this was a program about a Texan oil
family who talked about oil wells, barrels of oil, the price of oil you
can just imagine how this game turned out.
There was also a spin off game, 'Drink along a Rugby'.
2.
The Rugby team decided to go on tour to Edinburgh based on the fact
that British rail were doing a special student price of £ 12 anywhere in
the UK that weekend. Rob however decided that was too much and that he
and I would hitchhike instead ! Three hours stood at the end of the
motorway later we finally got a lift as far as Preston. Another 2 hours
plus wait later the two weary travellers decided to catch the train
anyway, but had to wait until 5 pm as that was when the deal started.
The next train to Glasgow and then on to Edinburgh was at 5.06pm so we
had 6 minutes to buy our ticket and run to the platform over the bridge.
The
end result was that we spent just as much money as everyone else and
that we arrived in Edinburgh 3 hours later than the rest of the team.
The icing on the cake was that it snowed and that not a single ball was kicked on the tour.
Marcus has been with us forever I think. His parents and Grandma and Grandad were friends and came to all our parties, so I think he and Mum have known each other since they were little (maybe?!) He pops round at least once a month for a cup of tea, a bed for the night, or a haircut so that he looks "Hip and trendy, like the cool kids!" and with arms loaded with a Chinese (meal not a person!!!!) and goodies from Grandma if he has been back to Rugby.
How Rob met Mandy
Mandy had just returned from dancing in South Korea and Japan.
She and I had met up as old friends do, and a few days later on the Sunday I went out for a drink with her and invited Rob and Pete along as well. We all had a great evening. Pete being Pete, blushing and saying the wrong thing and dribbling in his pint glass - and Rob for once didn't say much - which was a nice change. We found out why later!
We arranged that the following night, on the Monday evening, we would all meet up again at the Reflex and play a “round robin” squash tournament and we invited Mandy along to watch.
Great idea, she’d be all blonde and glamorous, and we’d all be macho, sweaty and athletic in short shorts! Eww something I never wanted to picture in my mind but is now burned it to my retinas!
Only problem was Rob didn't turn up and Mandy couldn't make it! So Pete and I were left alone like a couple of sad plonkers playing squash all night.
WHILST UNBEKNOWN TO US Rob had secretly arranged a date with Mandy knowing that Pete and I wouldn't show up as we would be a couple of dumped plonkers playing squash all alone while he was dating his future wife in town.
And the rest is history….
If you like this sort of post let me know and I will try and do them on a regular basis
